PBO is a high performance fiber as it has an excellent tenacity, a high Young's modul as well as excellent thermal stability. Thanks to these properties, PBO is often applied in technical applications like outerspace, body armour or sports applications like racquets and snowboards as well as in medical applications.
 

Its high modulus makes it an excellent candidate for composites reinforcement. Due to its high LOI, PBO has over twice the flame retardant properties of meta-aramid fibers.
